Success! We found fresh doughnuts. The lady must have gotten tired of us pestering her everyday. Today when we asked she told us to stay put for a minute and she went to the kitchen and got a whole tray of them steaming hot. Rinat was a happy young man. Unfortunately, it is going to take more than a snack to happy up Sholpan. She is feverish and feels terrible. Rinat reports that she was up during the night and has been given medicine. He keeps up with those sisters! Zarina still has a terrible cough and has been to see the nurse. It doesn’t seem to be getting her down too much. We put our puzzle building skills to the test today. It makes it more of a challenge to work on a lumpy oriental carpet. Alas, we had to leave before the puzzle was complete. On the way back we stopped to get a cake for our friend Kim since she will be leaving tomorrow after having been here for six weeks. We will miss her. Tomorrow will be our last official day of bonding. On Wednesday our coordinator will apply for a court date. We are still hoping for Friday, but it will likely be at least Monday. Thursday is the last day of school here and big celebrations are being planned. Can’t wait to see all of those French Maids!

  1. Phew! Although I don't always awaken to the bright, smiling faces of my beloved and loving children ("Hey Pops, get your lazy butt out of bed and tell us when you're taking us to Disneyland!"), at least I know I can access the Thompson blog and see the bright, smiling faces of Keith's children. But not this morning -- there was no entry! I thought maybe the children had revolted at the lack of doughnuts. Happily, it appears the doughnuts have been procured, and the photos and commentary for the day have been posted. However, the delay meant that the last remaining airline ticket from the U.S. to Kazakhstan was snapped up before I learned that it was graduation time again. Apparently Aaron purchased it after learning that the girls traditionally wear the outfit Keith mentioned. To my loss and surprise, Aaron has a friend who will read to him. I hope he gets there Tuesday and is greeted by Keith, who happens to be receiving an honorary diploma (TTT).

Hope everyone who is under the weather recovers, and the healthy remain so!

  2. Remember -- if anyone gives you any trouble, just wave a damp hanky at them and he or she will flee. My hanky always struck fear in the heart of Valentina. We Russians are strong, but catching a cold in Siberia is a poor career decision to say the least.

By the way, where are Aaron and Beth and the rest of the blogees on the Thompson organization chart?

  3. working on the squirrel nut business i'm sure. when aaron realised that his calculations were out, and that you only get two nuts from every SECOND squirrel, then it was back to the drawing board for to re-jig the whole business plan.

  4. Linda and Jack -- Never underestimate a Virginia squirrel, or any of their wildlife, for that matter. Former President Jimmy Carter was nearly mauled by a Southern rabbit (which may say more about Jimmy Carter than the rabbit, however).
